Summary

In the next section titled “The One who Gathers”, an amnesiac man who will one day be known by many names. wakes from a coma three months before the Forgetting, Dr. Zadeh says the man was in a serious car crash and it takes months for him to physically recover. However, he suffers from retrograde amnesia and cannot remember anything about himself. Over time, the man sees his past self as another person entirely, even as he stays in an assisted-living facility under Dr. Zadeh. A woman named Charlotte visits, but he does not remember who she is to him.
