Summary

In Chapter 9, when Benny’s new psychiatrist, Dr. Melanie, said “Benny could have [ADHD] without the hyperactivity,” Annabelle did not understand (79). She missed Kenji, knowing things would be easier if he were still alive. When they left, Annabelle promised to take Benny to the Library.

Dr. Melanie wondered about her new patient. She also worried that Annabelle might be suffering from “depression and anxiety disorder herself” (81).

In Chapter 10, Annabelle used to take Benny to the Library as a child. They spent most of their time in the children’s section, which was now called the Multicultural Children’s Corner (83).

In “Benny,” Benny remembers Annabelle taking him to Children’s Hour. He remembers the “nice librarian,” Cory, too (87). He is sad when Annabelle does not keep her promise to visit the Library. When they get home, they “[have] this fight,” during which Benny mocks...
