Summary
52: This essay is about the band Toto and how the undertones of racism and sexism are dismissed in their much-loved songs. This, combined with the evidence of consumerism Ross sees when flipping through a magazine makes him think: "we're so fucked" (145).
53: Upon seeing the following on a sign outside a church: "Forbidden fruit creates many jams" Ross does not think about the word "jam" as a synonym for "problem" but rather delights at the idea of a jam sale fundraiser, which is what he initially thought the sign was about.
54: Ross notes that it is not socially acceptable to lie down in public, with the one exception of in a public park. Despite this, Ross has had some of his most fulfilling naps on sidewalks and remembers some of his pleasant public dozes.
