Chapter 19 – The Blossom

The Residence of the Suzerain was colder and darker than it was during orientation. Suhail stayed with Paige until Nashira came. Then she excused him. As Paige looked around the large room, she noticed a bell jar that had a dried up flower under its glass dome on the dining table. The blood-consort had kept Nashira informed of Paige’s progress. Unfortunately, she had failed to take full possession of a dreamscape – even an animal’s dreamscape. But she survived the Emim and the Warden recommended that she be promoted to red-jacket. Paige forced herself to say she’d done her best and was grateful for his recommendation.
