Part One, “The Rediscovery of Trauma” – Prologue. As the book begins, what are the reader’s perceptions and/or experiences of both trauma and how it is treated? What is defined as trauma? How is it treated?
Part of the author's intention with writing the book, as he states in the Prologue, is to inspire readers to see the experience of trauma and recovery in a different way. He asks the reader to see trauma as a widespread problem with an expansive range of causes; and to see recovery and possibilities for healing in a wider range of potential activities and practices. It is therefore important for the reader to start the process of interacting with the book and the author's work to have an initial understanding of what trauma means, and what recovery involves.
