Chapter 8 Summary

As Valancy tries to sleep that night, she realizes that she isn't afraid to die. When Valancy thinks about how her family will react to her illness, she vows not to tell them. Valancy thinks about how she has never had even one solid hour of happiness in her life. She recalls all of the bad incidents that have occurred to her over the years. Valancy experiences an episode of pain around her heart. When it passes, she vows to stop trying to please others like she has her whole life and to start pleasing herself.

Chapter 8 Analysis

It's ironic that Valancy is afraid of everything in life but she is not afraid of death. The truth is about to set Valancy free.
