Chapter 7 Summary
Valancy decides to cut down her rosebush that was given to her, but has never bloomed. Mrs. Frederick admonishes Valancy for this and gives her the silent treatment. Valancy goes into town to pick up her cousins medicine and stops at the post office to pick up the mail. She has a letter from Dr. Trent. When she arrives home and reads the letter, the doctor tells her that she has a fatal heart disease and will likely only live for another year. At dinner that night, Valancy hardly eats and speaks out against her mother and cousin.
Chapter 7 Analysis
Valancy's destiny has changed, but not in the way she imagined. She feels as if she is going to die before she has ever had a chance to live. Now that she knows she's going to die, Valancy chooses to speak her mind...
