Summary
In Part IV, Chapter 26, Hazel visited her father's former shrink, Asher Schiff. At the end of the visit, Schiff, who knew the Brunns, gave Hazel Lazlo’s old cassettes, thinking "the family might want" them (325).
In the aftermath of Vik's death, Hazel stopped sleeping. She spent her nights with the cassettes. From out of the senseless sounds, Hazel heard a voice asking "Are...You...Speaking...To...Me" (327). The more she studied the tapes, the more she believed Lazlo “had slipped outside a human perception of time" (328). Hazel took the tapes to Turk. Turk encouraged Hazel to put the tapes aside and see her father, if she wanted "to know about the past" (333).
In Chapter 27, Hazel visited her father. She wanted to know if her father's secret was a complication to her reality. She asked about his story. Erwin began speaking.
