Summary
In Part II, Chapter 8, the Saltwaters visited the Vornados' Montauk home on "the Friday before the party" (73). Sid Feeney, one of Bo's friends, was also there. Erwin was in a bad mood. He saw the Vornados' "immense wealth" as evidence of their inauthenticity (75). He ranted about the performative nature of their lifestyle to Sarah. Once in the company of Bo, Jane, and Sid, Erwin continued his tirade. Bo did not mind. He saw Erwin's attitude as evidence of his jealousy. He liked other men to want what he had.
The next morning, Bo, Sid, and Erwin went fishing. A storm was blowing in. The water was rocky. Bo was desperate to catch something. Erwin was anxious, and became sick. After the war, Erwin had ridden a roller coaster, which upset "the untold horrors his already unfriendly brain had waiting" (93). Afterwards, everything...
