Summary
In Chapter 5, Gabriel Allon, a man some believed to be dead, was restoring a badly damaged painting at the Israel Museum. Gabriel had been declared dead so that he could get revenge on his enemies in Moscow and the Tehran. He wanted to live in peace with his new family. His wife, twin infants and he were the most closely guarded people in Israel at that time. Gabriel finished the restoration of the painting on the day that Navot was to travel from Paris to Israel.
In Chapter 6, it is described how Ari Shamron, chief of the Office, discovered Gabriel at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. He manipulated Gabriel into becoming part of an intelligence team tasked with hunting down and killing the terrorists responsible for killing eleven Israeli Jewish athletes during the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
