Relationships

One of the primary themes running through the novel is relationships. In this particular novel, the relationships coincide with the various fairies, wizards, and animals get along in the fairyland of Landover. Additionally, however, the novel also tackles how the natural divisions of these relationships change and morph when they are working toward a common goal.

Friendship is one type of relationship the novel tackles. Ben Holiday and his old law partner Miles are true friends. While Miles remains in the real world while Ben lives in fairyland, Ben and Miles have such a strong bond that it sends Ben back to Chicago to check on Miles's well being. Even though Abernathy, Bunion, Parsnip and Questor work for Ben Holiday in the kingdom, they are also Ben's friends. They care about each other's well being, safety and overall happiness.
