Chapters 5-7 Summary

The next morning, Harry is called into his boss's office shortly after arriving at work. Harry's boss tells him to stay away from the Moore case. The boss then tells Harry that one of his fellow detectives is applying for stress-related leave. Harry is assigned the other detective's cases and told to solve one of them by the following week in order to improve the squad's statistics. Harry calls the other detective, Lucius Porter, and asks him which case would be the easiest to solve by the end of the week, but Porter is a drinker and already drunk and is little help. Harry then takes the files to a quiet room and studies them all, focusing on a case of an unidentified Hispanic male who was found by an off-duty police officer behind a local diner.
