Point of View

The novel is limited to the perspective of a 13-year-old girl who prefers to be called Creeper. Her real name is Jacqueline, and she is an orphan. Her mother worked as a prostitute, a fact that does not bother Creeper. She is called Creeper because of her ability to climb, similar to how a vine can climb directly up a wall. Creeper seems to be an honest narrator but her ability to be honest is limited by several factors, including her own limitations. While Creeper is street smart and has a long list of sources that provide her with direction and information, she is not always able to understand.
