Diana Bishop de Clermont
Diana is the narrator and main protagonist of the novel. As the daughter of Rebecca Bishop and Stephen Proctor, she is caught between a disagreement on the use of higher magic that causes a lot of both internal and interpersonal conflict. So, during the first half of the novel, Diana worries that she will let her family down if she pursues higher magic, but will not be true to herself if she walks away. After Meg’s challenge at the Crossroads, Diana becomes much more confident in herself and her path while focusing on building her skills to protect her family.
