Summary
In Chapter 16, spring arrives and Mary Agnes begins to count down to her wedding. Dexter never again mentions marriage and April assumes that means they will. Caroline knows Dexter is stringing April along with no intention of marriage but April cannot see it. April says one of Dexter's friends made a pass at her. Caroline says April should date other boys. Caroline says the girls have decided to give Mary Agnes money instead of a shower party, believing it would be what she wants. Mike says every girl deserves a party and he pays for the refreshments himself. April asks to try on Mary Agnes's engagement ring and Caroline can see April is hurt because she does not have her own. Caroline realizes every young woman believes her wedding is special. Mary Agnes's wedding and reception are elaborate affairs and Caroline finds herself...
