Summary

In Chapter 19, Zoey goes to her mom’s work to tell her about the paperwork she found. However, her mother defends Lenny and slaps Zoey—then warns her that she had better stop spying on them.

In Chapter 20, Fuchsia walks to Zoey’s house and reveals that she threatened to call DCF if her mom made her move into her new boyfriend’s house. The next day, Michael picked Fuchsia up instead and warned her that he would kill her if she tried anything like that again—and then he pulled out a gun, pointed it at her, and shot through his own windows three times. Zoey urges Fuchsia to tell someone else, but Fuchsia is too scared. Zoey gives Fuchsia her coat so she can be warm on her walk home. Zoey goes inside and refuses to tell her siblings a story...
