Summary
In Chapter 31, Ezra realizes that a lot of things about Cassidy make sense now that he knows about her brother's death. He knows that something about Owen caused her to change her mind about attending the dance. He imagines that she might have forgotten his birthday or something they always did together. He thinks back over their final conversation on the phone but can't figure out a connection. Ezra imagines that Cassidy had been too sad to pretend otherwise, and that she'd avoided Ezra because she didn't want to have to voice the truth – that her brother is dead.
One afternoon, Ezra's dad talks to him about dinner that night. He then asks what Ezra has been doing to stay busy. Ezra admits that he's filling out college applications. His father agrees that Ezra should attend the school of his choice but warns...
