Summary
Chapter 6 opens in London. Nuri receives an asylum letter, which will allow him to make a medical appointment for Afra. He takes the document to a medical office run by England’s National Health Service (NHS). He shows the letter to the receptionist, who says that she cannot register Nuri or Afra since the letter does not have an address. Nuri points out that NHS policy does not require an address, but the receptionist remains firm, telling Nuri to consult with his social worker.
The narrative shifts back to Nuri and Afra’s refugee journey. Their boat arrived on the Greek island of Farmakonisi. Nuri comforted Mohammed, who was still traumatized from nearly drowning.
