Dr. Michele Harper
Dr. Michele Harper is the author, main character, and narrator of The Beauty in the Breaking. She is a black woman who grew up in an upper-middle-class environment. She had a difficult childhood as her father was physically abusive and she did not feel safe in her own home. As a teenager, Michele decided that she would become an emergency room physician so that she would be able to be of service to others through healing. The end of her medical residency and the start of the next phase of her career also coincides with the end of her marriage. Michele begins her new life from a place of brokenness and has to learn how to heal along a journey of rebirth.
