Summary
In “Tread Carefully,” Bastien wanted to avoid Celine becoming involved in his dangerous world. He brought her to his uncle’s room. He warned her that there were demons that wanted to kill her and he should not trust anyone, including himself and the Court of the Lions. Celine told him that she had killed a man in Paris. Bastien explained that Anabel’s ribbon belonged to his sister Émilie, who had died. Celine kissed Bastien. Bastien carried her to his uncle’s bed and she tore off his shirt. All of a sudden, she screamed and Bastien saw the severed head and arm of Nigel and a symbol written in blood beside him. Meanwhile, the narrator admitted that they were intentionally attacking those close to the Court of Lions.
