The Dangers of Occult Practice
This is one component of the narrative's central thematic premise - that occult practices can be (and are, in the author's mind) perceived by both those who practice them and by society-at-large as gifts from God rather than as tricks played by Satan to win control of human souls (which is what she contends they are). In other words, the author is suggesting that apparent miracles cannot always be trusted as originating from the Holy Spirit, but can in fact be evil disguised as beauty and blessing.
