Point of View

The novel is narrated by an independent narrator. The narrator seems to know what individual characters think at given times but does not reveal what all the characters think or feel. The narrator makes it clear that the Prince (who is also the Beast) does not see things as they truly are. For example, the servants all fall victim to the curse and they change into other forms. As the Prince becomes more the Beast, he tends to see everything as threatening. Though Lumiere continues to carry on conversations with other servants, the Beast does not see them. Lumiere and the other servants apparently see the Prince in his beastly form, but are not afraid of him even then.
