Grant
Grant is a retired professor of Nordic and Anglo-Saxon literature. He lives in Ontario, Canada, and for the bulk of the story, he is about 70 years old. He met Fiona when they were both attending the same university as students, and they married. While Grant was a professor, he had several affairs with female students of his. He eventually confessed this to Fiona, but they remained committed to their marriage. Grant retired early with a reduced pension so that, in the wake of his infidelities, he and Fiona could move to rural Ontario to begin a new life together.
