Summary
The story opens when the main characters, Fiona and Grant, are attending university. Fiona lives with her parents. Her father is a successful cardiologist, and her mother is Icelandic. Fiona has a generally playful personality, and she is courted by multiple suitors. Eventually, she is courted by Grant, and they decide to marry one another. The narrative then shifts ahead about 50 years, when Fiona is almost 70 years old. Fiona begins to lose much of her memory. She forgets things she has known for years, such as the exact location of her and Grant’s house, as well as the fact that they have lived there for 12 years.
