Summary
King writes that he was thinking of the movie titled I Bury the Living when he wrote his story “Obits.”
In “Obits,” the narrator, Michael “Mike” Anderson, notes that he doubts anyone will believe the story he is about to tell.
Mike writes he was hired by a celebrity gossip webzine to write a nasty obituary column called Speaking Ill of the Dead. None of the traditional newspapers to which he had applied were hiring. Mike was given a paltry salary, but after ratings at the webzine went up because of his column, he asked for a decent raise. Jeroma Whitfield, the editor, refused his request.
Mike worked out his frustration by writing a joke obituary for Jeroma. He planned to print out several copies of the obit, pin them up all over the building, and then tell Jeroma he was quitting. When he...
