Summary
King describes how his stories often come to him in two parts, a cup at one point and a handle at another, instead of a complete package. He witnessed a near-miss between two trucks at a busy intersection and wondered what might have happened if the drivers had a collision and then physically attacked one another. He describes this story idea as a “cup with no handle” (66). Years later, he watched as a middle-aged man cut up steak for an elderly gentleman. King decided they were father and son and made them the “handle” (66) for the road rage story.
