Summary

In Chapter 11, Rusty and Zoe wandered around Rainbow Reservoir on Derby Day, while Tom was busy managing the event. Rusty was gloomy at the idea of Proxy being his mother, and Zoe was gloomy about starting school. Del headed over to the floodgate so he could record the sound of the water, and Francine settled down with Rusty and Zoe while Tom addressed the crowd. During his speech, they noticed that the dam was leaking. Tom shouted warnings through the microphone, but Del, who was busy on top of the dam with his headphones on, did not hear. Rusty ran onto the causeway just in time to alert him, while Francine restrained Zoe from following. Del – encumbered with his recording equipment – was too slow following Rusty off the causeway, and the wave of mud swept him away as the dam burst. He miraculously...
