Summary
In chapter twenty-two, Kayla rushes to find Mfumbe who is washing clothing at the creek. He takes her to the opening of an old mine shaft. They follow it for a long distance and emerge into the woods in a different place with no signs of officers. They find a truck and hide inside it. It's carrying chips and sodas and they eat and drink while they ride. The truck is going north and they are relieved it will take some of the walking off their trip. They finally have to get out because the number of boxes is running low and they know they soon won't be able to hide when the driver stops for deliveries.
Mfumbe has a GPS and they check their location, choose a direction they believe will take them to the Adirondacks, and begin walking. They stop to sleep for...
