Summary

Part II is titled The Prize. In Chapter 11, Coriolanus realizes that Lucy Gray is right – he has never considered she might win. Lucy Gray says Coriolanus and Sejanus are the only two mentors who have acted like the tributes are human. Coriolanus accepts the challenge of helping Lucy Gray win. She does not feel she could kill except in self-defense. They agree she will try to hide, at least in the beginning. Later, Sejanus gets in a heated argument with Dr. Gaul about whether it is their right to starve and kill tributes. He tries to leave only to find the door is locked. Coriolanus invites Sejanus to sit by him, though he is not sure why.
