Summary

In Chapter 8, Clemensia screams as she tries to shake the snakes from her hand. Lab assistants give her a shot and rush her away. Coriolanus confirms he wrote the report alone. Dr. Gaul says she will not tolerate any more lies from him. She approves of his proposal, and says the team will implement a version of it. She dismisses him, saying it is time for her snack. He becomes disoriented and finds himself surrounded by people in various stages of mutation until someone directs him to the elevator. Coriolanus draws a comparison between the lives of his peers and the district children tapped for the Hunger Games. He had thought the Capitol would protect them, but Arachne is dead and Clemensia might be as well. He imagines what would have happened if Clemensia had written the proposal instead.
