Summary
Dorian wakes in agony, speared by a branch. He pulls it out, and heads for the voice he hears screaming. He finds a pilot with a broken leg and pulls him to safety. The pilot returns the favor, taking the time to remove Dorian’s melting boots and saving his feet. The pilot removed his own boots, leaving them for Dorian as well. The pilot’s leg is already showing signs of infection. Dorian uses the satellite phone to call Fleet Operations and demands to know why he is still stuck behind enemy lines. Captain Williams says they’ve tried but have been shot down twice already. Dorian asks for a topographical map with overlays of Ceuta’s firing range and makes arrangements for pickup in eight hours. The pilot snores on as Dorian considers his options...
