Summary
Chapter 85 opens in the winter of Sophomore year when Leigh’s mother’s chain of her necklace broke. Leigh realized she was trying to find excuses for her mother’s depression even back then. Axel and Caro were away on trips, and Leigh saw her mother light up when Leigh’s father offered to help with dumplings. However, her father got upset when he asked Leigh to help with dumplings instead of drawing, but her mother stopped the fight. For Christmas, Leigh drew them on the playground in Village Park where they used to go in clean pencil lines. Her mother gave her paint, then her father gave her mother a silver bracelet.
