Summary
In Chapter 31, Davy questions his father when he learns that he wants all of the women in town banded. Prentiss reasons that no innocent woman would have a problem with having an identification band. Just as they expected, the women are not happy with being banded. Even though Hammar points a rifle at one woman’s head she still talks back to them and asks them if they do not have hearts.
On the way home, Davy complains to Todd about the jobs they have been given to do. He lashes out at Todd for getting on his father’s good side by acting like he does not care about the pain they are causing the women. Finally, Davy asks Todd how he manages to separate himself from what they are doing. Todd wonders if Davy’s father has not taught him...
