Summary

In Chapter 27, Prentiss holds a rally in which he speaks out against the Answer. Even Davy comments when his father increases the number of people killed in the last attack by the Answer. The people are most upset about the death of the Spackle. Since the last bombing a month prior, Davy and Todd have been promoted to guards for the Office of the Ask. They each have a large silver letter “A” sewn on their new uniforms. Todd has a key to his prison cell and has been blocking out his thoughts using the phrase “I am the Circle and the Circle is me” (319).

While riding out to the new Ministry of the Ask, Prentiss criticizes Davy for complaining so much. He belittles him by telling him that people often mistake Todd for Prentiss’ son instead of Davy. On that particular...
