Summary
Stéphane is still in prison, and still does not know about the warrant or the failed search. While in the interrogation room again with Meier, Meier shows him a photograph of a gold, seventeenth century medallion that had also been stolen two weeks prior to the bugle. Meier tells Stéphane that the Swiss police are certain Stéphane also stole the medallion (despite having practically no evidence to support this). Stéphane is still aware that at any moment Meier could be lying to him, like he did on the first day of the investigation, and so treats everything cautiously. Meier lies, and tells Stéphane that if he confesses, he can go home. Stéphane spent Christmas and New Year's Day in prison, and has not seen his family in weeks, so he is desperate to get home.
