Summary
Anne-Catherine separates from Stéphane, and moves back in with her family. She gets a driver's license and buys a car. Eventually, she is able to rent a studio apartment on the edge of Mulhouse. In the Summer of 1998, Stéphane begins calling Anne-Catherine from his mothers phone every day. Anne-Catherine never picks up, except one day, four months later, when she finally does. In the four months that they have been separated, Stéphane has not stolen a single piece of art. He has felt lost and directionless without Anne-Catherine. He has held a few temporary jobs, but little else.
As they talk, for the first time in four months, Stéphane expresses his true love for Anne-Catherine, promising that he has not stolen anything in her absence, and stayed faithful to her. While his life seems to have crashed and halted...
