Summary
Four months later, the couple visit Lucerne, Switzerland, and stop at a private art gallery while there. They hardly ever steal from galleries, as the spaces are usually smaller, and the security much better, than at a museum. Stéphane is attracted to one of the paintings, but Anne-Catherine begs him not to try taking it, as it is highly dangerous. The weather is warm, and Stéphane is not wearing a coat to conceal the painting. There is also a police station directly across the street. The piece, by Dutch painter Willem van Aelst, is too alluring to Stéphane. The employees are distracted and the door is close by, he does not even have to remove the frame. Stéphane grabs the painting, tucks it under his arm, and moves towards the exit. He and Anne-Catherine are about twenty paces out...
