Chapters 8 - 14 (Pages 38 - 83) Summary
In Chapter 8, Enzo recounts the happenings of a particular "summer Saturday afternoon" (p. 38). Enzo, Denny, and Eve watch a video of one of Denny's long races. This race was eight hours long and Denny was to drive for two hours. On this day, Denny once again reminds Enzo that a race car driver has to make friends with the rain.
Enzo decides to manifest a closer relationship with Eve. Eve lets her guard down and pets Enzo until he rolls over onto his back, exposing his belly. Enzo refers to Eve as his "rain" (p. 44). To Enzo, Eve represents the changeability of circumstance.
In Chapter 9, Enzo talks about one of the best times ever. Conversely, it is also one of the worst times ever.
