The Man
The man is the protagonist of the novel, as the entirety of the narrative is centered around his journey and experiences as an immigrant. The man appears to be of middle age, and can be easily identified by the trilby hat that he always wears. Though there is no dialogue in the novel, the man’s personality appears to be kind, patient, and determined. The man is both a husband and a father, so when his country becomes plagued by a group of threatening, spiked tentacles, he seeks refuge for his family. However, without the necessary finances to move his entire family with him, he must begin his journey on alone. Though he faces many challenges as an immigrant, the man’s duty to his family is one of the reasons he works so hard towards achieving a better life in a new country.
