Summary
In Chapter 40, after the meeting, Journeyman tries to deduce if the townspeople plan on killing Todbaum, but no one seems sure. Journeyman then converses with Astur, who speaks enigmatically of a project that the townspeople plan on constructing on a nearby island.
In Chapter 41, Journeyman thinks of the library and the woman living there, and he decides to go there again.
In Chapter 42, Journeyman goes to the library and speaks with the woman, who finally agrees to state her name: Drenka. However, she is still generally evasive regarding her past. Journeyman realizes that he is attracted to her.
