Nawa
Nawa is the small village located in North Africa, where the majority of the novel takes place. Though beekeeper Sidi lives a distance from the village center, he often travels into town on errands, or to commune with the local Nawis. All of the villagers know and respect Sidi, and eagerly welcome him during his visits to town.
Because Nawa is so geographically secluded, its inhabitants think of themselves as their own entity. Therefore, when warring political parties visit their village after the Arab Spring, the Nawis are. unsure how best to choose a new leader. No matter who was in power, no one seemed to care about the Nawis lives or opinions. Throughout the novel, the villagers struggle to orient to their new governing body, the Party of God, while Sidi attempts to protect his bees against another violent invader: the giant Asian hornet.
