Summary

“Part Nine: Scenes from a Life” has no subtitle, and it is never made clear who is speaking. It is broken into four sections. In the first section, two people have a conversation without any attributions given to indicate the speaker. One of them talks about wanting to be alone in a country of their own. In the second section, an unnamed narrator directly addresses her child. The narrator tells the child to listen to their mother and then says that humans are naturally sinful and encourages the child to repent for sinful ways. The third section returns to the conversation between two characters. They talk of utopias, and then a group of children run up and call to Hisako, revealing that Hisako is one of the speakers. She introduces them to her friend and they all play together in the garden...
