Part Two - 1977: Pages 382 - 411 Summary
Samson Kumalo goes into the mission house quietly and watches his grandfather Gideon sleeping but he wakes, knowing Samson is there. After tea and conversation, Gideon suggests that Samson pick Constance up from the hospital. He does and they return. Constance makes dinner, but she seems anxious. The reason is clear when Constance opens the door and lets in two men. One searches the house, and the other introduces himself as Comrade Tebe and asks Gideon's name. Though Gideon resists at first, when Tebe mentions the name Tungata Zebiwe, and begins to sing about the moles in the earth, tears role down Gideon's face as he sings along. Tebe tells him that the spirits of his ancestors are calling him. Gideon tells him he is too old and Samson realizes that someone will have to...
