Summary
“Catherine”: Saint Catherine questions Satan about his relationship with Death, telling him that Satan has underestimated his son, and that they both think they are winning in their struggle for Jacob. She also asks what Satan is trying to accomplish with his attempts to get Jacob to remember. When Satan says that “forgetting is as integral to memory as death is to life” (86), the usually uptight Catherine relaxes, and realizes she agrees with him – although she adds that more people seem interested in relationships with Death than with Satan.
"At the Clinic – Genesis": Jacob describes to Doc how he keeps writing poetry - even though he feels it is generally bad - but is also writing more prose. He then describes how he, with Satan still beside him, engages in conversation with an older woman wearing glasses and carrying a large handbag...
