Summary
In Chapter 32, one afternoon, Bert saw one of the children playing near a stream, wearing a green t-shirt that advertised a festival in Germany from the year that Greta and Joseph came to live at the castle. Bert was sure that the shirt had belonged to Joseph.
Bert was spending more and more time with Ciba as it grew closer and closer for her to give birth. Ciba was tired, unusually pale, and would barely eat. Bert believed she was anemic, but there were no vitamins. Bert wanted to take Ciba to the castle for better medical care, but Aki refused. Bert realized that having Ciba seen by a human doctor would jeopardize the lives of all the Icemen.
