Summary
In Chapter 15, Bert felt sad for Vita because she had been so unloved and so misunderstood. However, at the same time, Bert felt a weight lifted from her because it was apparent Vita suffered from some sort of genetic congenital illness. It explained the multitude of miscarriages and stillbirths in the family. Bert no longer felt she was to blame for not being able to carry a child to term.
A week passed and Zimmer did not come for Bert, leaving her to believe that what Basil told her was true. She snuck out of her rooms one night to use the rotary phone to call Luca.
