Summary

Rosie attempts to write while Lucas is out in Chapter 7. She is interrupted by a strange sound outside. She meets Lina’s neighbor, an old woman named Adele. Rosie tries to help Adele move a loveseat. Suddenly, Adele becomes confused. Lucas arrives. When Rosie introduces him to Adele, Adele says, “But this can’t be your Lucas. He’s my Mateo” (93). Lucas lifts the loveseat and whispers to Rosie, “Your Lucas to the rescue” (93).

Back in Lina’s apartment, Lucas reveals that his grandfather had Alzheimer’s. When Rosie places a hand on Lucas’ forearm, he hugs her. He says, “I really fucking hope this is okay… Is it, Graham?” (95). Rosie confirms that she is okay with hugs. When Lucas offers to make them a frittata and cheesecake, Rosie thinks there is nothing she could not like—or love—about him.
