Lyra
Lyra was the main character in the first book of the trilogy and one of two main characters in the second. She has joined forces with Will Parry, whom she met in the second book, and together they are trying to reach Lord Asriel. This book begins with her kidnapping and drugging by her mother, Mrs. Coulter, who may or may not want Lyra dead. It is unclear from the last book exactly what her mother wants. Lyra is the daughter of Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter, and has been mostly ignored by the former and chased down by the latter. Lyra has been growing and maturing through the first two books and continues on her path to maturity in this one.
