Chapter Thirty-Six, The Broken Arrow Summary
Pan and Will's daemon come to check on their humans, but are called to by a woman. It is Serafina Pekkala and she has come to talk to the daemons, who change into birds and fly up into a tree and join the witch. Serafina explains that witches all must do what Lyra and Will did—leave their daemons behind so that when they rejoin, the daemons can travel far away from their people. Will and Lyra, explains Serafina, have become like witches even though they will not live as long and even though Will is a man. Things are changing because of the two young people.
