No-Name the harpy is leading the group deep into some caves. Salmakia is feeding her own blood to her dragonfly to try and keep it alive, since the shimmer of the large insects is the only light the group has. Lee Scoresby's ghost appears to warn Lyra of what is about to happen with the bomb. Lee's ghost asks if Will is there with the knife—and Will's father's ghost, the ghost of John Perry, is right next to theTexan. John Parry tells him to find the place on Lyra's head where the lock of hair was cut and instructs him to cut it off down to her scalp, then open a new window, put the hair through, and close the window.
